Somali Artists on Comeback
As African forces continue to push Islamist militants belonging to the al-Shabaab network out of Somali cities, the country is slowly but steadily witnessing a rebirth of its art scene.

Last week, we brought you video from a vigilante Muslim group patrolling the streets of London, confronting non-believers and trying to force them to observe the constraints of Sharia laws. Now, with the backlash still growing against the patrol, London police have announced the arrests of two men said to be leaders of the group.
Muslim patrols have now mobilized in London, trying to enforce Sharia laws upon non-believers. This video was apparently produced by patrol members as a recruiting tool. If so, you won’t have long to wait until clones of these fine fellows come calling on a neighborhood near you. H/T Pamela Geller
Three Algerian diplomats held hostage by suspected Islamist militants in Mali have appealed to their government to secure their release. The three men are among seven diplomats seized in April while working at the Algerian consulate in Gao in northern Mali. Gao is part of a swath of territory in northern Mali now under the control of Tuareg-led separatists.
Ismail Al-Wahwah, spokesman for Hizb ut-Tahrir in Australia, predicts the establishment of a global Islamic caliphate, with Sharia laws enforced around the world and Arabic taught in every school, other “foreign” languages allowed only in universities.
Founded in 1953, Hizb ut-Tahrir is a Sunni, pan-Islamic political party with chapters in some 40 countries. The group argues against democracy, and believes non-Muslims should be treated as second-class citizens, unable to hold office or to vote. In the West, Hizb ut-Tahrir is particularly active in Great Britain, with a growing presence in North America. H/T MEMRI TV
The new Egyptian constitution imposing Sharia law continues to arouse the ire of democratic-minded reformers. After leading an Egyptian blogger and two Femen cohorts to strip outside the Egyptian embassy in Sweden (see post titled “Nude Protest Greets Egyptians”), the constitution has now inspired a belly dancer to pen a satirical ditty bemoaning the lack of women’s rights under the new Morsi government. Femen protesters Saturday staged an all-nude protest in the snow outside the Egyptian embassy in Sweden to oppose the new constitution paving the way for Sharia law in Egypt. Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, an Egyptian blogger, joined Femen protesters from Ukraine at the event. Elmahdy immediately received a torrent of death threats. (NSFW)
One lone protester stands up against the election of two Islamists to a town council in Belgium. On the one hand, the Islamists won by a fair, democratic vote. But on the other hand, they have endorsed the implementation of Sharia laws over and above Belgian civil laws and the European Convention on Human Rights. In other words, they are advocating a global caliphate under which the rights of women and gays would be abrogated, as well as anyone not adhering to Islam.
A tip of the hat to PJ commentator Roger L. Simon, who posted this video and noted the profound silence and apathy that greets this one protester. “Political correctness — leavened, to be sure, with a modicum of cowardice — overwhelmed their good sense and allowed the decent and courageous man to leave by himself,” Simon wrote. “If you ever wondered how Hitler happened, you have part of your answer on this video.”
French citizens march to support their values and culture, and to protest against radical Islamists migrating into the country, establishing separatist communities following Sharia law. The French media blacked out coverage of the march, which occurred this past Monday in Paris.
Author Renaud Camus, who helped to organize the event, has been outspoken in his criticism of the media for refusing to address the shortcomings of multiculturalism in France. Asked why the media angers him, Camus (no relation to Albert) replied, “Because they impose (almost) unanimously a system of interpreting the world that is a formidable machine for not seeing, not saying, not understanding…. Supported by threats, it serves to dissimulate what is happening: that is to say the changing of people, the Great Replacement, the reverse colonization.” H/T The Astute Bloggers
A ballad to the tune of The Kinks’ “Lola,” satirizing MSNBC commentator Mona Eltahawy’s decision to deface anti-jihadist ad posters placed in the New York subway system by Pamela Geller. Eltahawy apparently objected to the characterization of jihadists as “savages” so she embraced a curious position for a reputed journalist, that of attempting to deny the free speech rights of a political opponent. Then again, she’s affiliated with MSNBC, so her credentials as a journalist are as suspect as any of that network’s moonbat crew. Sample lyrics in this parody:
“Well I left mosque just a week before
And I’d never ever waged a jihad before
But Mona smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I’m gonna make you Sharia man.”
