Jihadists get in some giant slalom practice ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Although this bunch looks more like downhill racers because as soon as they start flapping their jowls, it’s all downhill from there. Score them as “zeroes” for originality.

US President Barack Obama has cancelled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the former cold-war superpower’s decision to grant asylum to whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Russians, Wikileaks Appalled

A US military judge has found Army private first class Bradley Manning “not guilty” of aiding the enemy. However, he was found guilty of 19 remaining charges, meaning that he still faces the possibility of over 100 years behind bars. Russia’s RT  network and Wikileaks’ Julian Assange cast the decision as a landmark blow against journalism and free speech. Strange, seeing as how Bradly Manning is hardly a journalist nor a clearcut whistleblower, so much as a shady and desperate character and a nervous basketcase whose weaknesses were exploited by both the Russians and their puppet mouthpiece — Assange, who might as well be tied at the hip to Putin. Boo freaking hoo!

Children of the Tundra

People living in the tundra are accustomed to a nomadic life. Tents are their homes, food is basic, and the reindeer is king. They don’t watch TV or use the Internet. However, their children do go to boarding schools, but not all parents are in favor of them.

 

Russian Dissident Jailed

The Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been jailed for five years on what people describe as trumped-up charges of embezzlement. Jonathan Rugman reports for Channel 4.

The sentencing touched off a massive, unauthorized protest on behalf of Navalny in Moscow. Riot police were dispatched to central Moscow as the protest continued, and dozens have been detained near Manezhnaya Square.
