Comedian Jack Benny was lauded as one of the most notable American entertainers of the 20th century, both on radio and television. Known for his situation comedy, Benny’s most popular character was his role as the miserly cheapskate. Another on-stage persona found Benny always claiming to be 39, despite being much older, and in other performances, he squeaked and screeched through several violin recitals although he was an accomplished musician in real life. In this first video, Benny opens his show with concerns about letting the audience in for free.
In this clip, an older Jack Benny interacts with the magnetic Frank Nelson, one of the many endearing characters on The Jack Benny Show, who was known for his catchphrase “EEE — Yeeeessssss!!” Be sure to visit LOL next Tuesday for another episode of the lighter side of life. — The Wickel
