Call Me Stormy

Finding righteous currents in turbulent times

Babes of Burlesque: 57

Burlesque performer and cosplayer extraordinaire, Stella Chuu has a passion for all things geeky — video games, anime, comic books and pop culture. She says the fantasy world of cosplay holds the same appeal for her as burlesque. “Being able to express that I love my body is an exhilarating feeling. I can show people that I am a sexual and powerful being. I am able to become any character that I want. All eyes are on me and I control what they see.”

Based out of New York City, Chuu combines burlesque and cosplay in “The Darkest Corners of the Internet,” her skit poking fun at Pedobear, spawned in the bowels of 4Chan. She has created other acts inspired by Tron and Star Wars.

She dons an entirely different, angelic persona in “The Imaginarium,” a 2011 burlesque show organized by Geek Girl Productions at the Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan.
