Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol

The Bob Cratchit dinner and song from Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, which originally aired 50 years ago on this date, December 18, in 1962. The Christmas special was one of the last efforts by the UPA animation studio, then in its dying days. While UPA did not survive, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol returned annually every Christmas season through the 1960s, and still was broadcast as late as the 1980s. Jim Backus, who voiced the role of Mr. Magoo, is perhaps best remembered as the millionaire Thurston Howell III from Gilligan’s Island.
